Job Description:
The Centro de Química Fina e Biotecnologia is a research center homed by the Department of Chemistry of the College of Science and Technology of UNL. It is one of the two research centers involved in the largest network in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering established in Portugal, REQUIMTE, which as been recognized as the Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde by the Portuguese Ministério da Ciência e do Ensino Superior since November 2001. The successful candidate will be involved in protein and nucleic acid derivatization of metal nanoparticles, towards the development of nanobiocomposites. The approach includes development of strategies for functionalization of the nanoparticle with specific ligands and study of the protein interaction by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The successful candidate will be integrated in a multidisciplinary research group with chemists, biochemists and molecular biologists, actively involved in the development of nanobiotechnologic platforms to use in clinical diagnosis. Most of the work will be performed in Caparica, but visits to other research institutes and universities in Portugal and abroad are envisioned. The candidate will design, conduct, and analyze experiments in the above fields. Functions will also include interaction and supervision of collaborators, preparation of draft manuscripts in English, and delivering oral presentations. Other responsibilities include the training and day to day supervision of other members of the research group and participation in institutional activities. It is also expected a fast and profitable integration in current research projects. Work will be conducted in an excellent environment with state-of-the-art facilities.
Job Requirements:
The applicant should preferably have at least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience and scientific production. The successful candidate must have research experience equivalent to a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biotechnology, with proven postdoctoral expertise in Analytical Chemistry and/or Chemical Synthesis and/or Biochemistry. Expertise in protein biochemistry and/or molecular biology is preferred but not mandatory. Knowledge of the Portuguese language is encouraged but not mandatory.
